Galliford Try names new building MD

Galliford Try has appointed Cliff Wheatley as its new divisional managing director of building, effective from 1st January 2026.

Cliff, who will join the housebuilder’s executive board in this new role, is succeeding Ian Jubb who will retire in June 2026 after 19 years with the group.

Cliff joined Galliford Try with the acquisition of Miller Construction in 2008 and was promoted to managing director of building for the North East and Yorkshire business unit in 2014.

Jeremy Barnett, operations director, will be promoted to managing director Galliford Try Building North East to replace Cliff.

“We are pleased to welcome Cliff to the Executive Board and congratulate him and Jeremy on their promotions,” said Bill Hocking, CEO at Galliford Try.

“Ian has played a significant and instrumental role in the group’s success, overseeing the growth and development of our building division as well as contributing to the development of our wider sustainable growth strategy.

We have carefully planned for Ian’s retirement and I thank him for his excellent contribution to Galliford Try over many years.”
